information super highway

as you've likely figured out, I'm in the process of creating a website. its a slow but steady process, much like my music making. speaking of which, I'd say I'm about 80% done the new recordings. what remains to be done is vocals and a few other odds and ends. and then mixing, but that's a whole other process. I'll post the rough mixes when they're ready.

dave wencer

A few days before I left for New York at the end of August I asked Dave Wencer to play piano on a song. He showed up without having heard the song and got his part down after only playing along a couple of times. That song was "the way of the buffalo". It's sort of a country sing-a-long song of sorts. He also played on "the 10th line", which turned out very well too. I met dave in kingston when we both played in bands there (he was in the jack kerouac knapsack band). He is incredibly talented and I'm very fortunate that he contributed to my recording. Hopefully he'll resume playing live music again someday - when he does, go watch and listen, you won't regret it.

up and running again

I have a class that requires me to keep a blog, so I figured if I'm doing it for school regularly I can do a better job here. We'll see. anyway, I've started recording again, my old computer died, but unlike previous occasions I backed up all the files. As you'll see I've become one of those "self-photographers", but not in an artistic way. Here I'm playing my recycling bin on a song called "the 10th line". It's a song for my Canadian-themed album called "canuck" (how original). The recycling bin does a pretty good job at replicating a group foot stomp. Its a song that doesn't have much in the way of instrumentation because it focuses on vocal harmonies. In case you didn't know, people in New York don't really recycle. In fact mayor Bloomberg ceased recycling here for 2 years in the early 2000s for economic reasons (so I'm told).

New York

I now live in New York now where I'm going to school. Over the summer I did a lot of recording in Toronto and much of it is nearing completion. However my computer is in the repair shop and everything is on hold until they resurrect it. I took pictures of the recording process and hope to put them up here soon. If you get the chance to see the musical "Jersey Boys" I highly recommend it. I don't like musicals, but you can't go wrong with Frankie Valli.
